about

lyrics

Would it seem low
If I didn't want to see you
I stood in the freezing rain
And watched you drive (away)

Is it any wonder
Does it really matter

Would you blame me
Could you even bother
Watched ‘til you were out of sight
Then I turned and you doubled back

If I gave you what you gave me
You'd be standing holding nothing
You'd be standing holding nothing

If I gave you what you gave me
You'd be standing holding nothing
Is it any wonder
Does it really matter
Does it really now

from I'll Repay You: A Benefit for John Fackler - featuring the songs of John Fackler and Jettison, released May 20, 2016
Written by John Fackler, though he could never make this song sound or work like he wanted.

Chad Rex made this song sound and work like John always wanted. Listen to that guitar solo! Chad is one of John's favorite guitar players of all time. Everything John THINKS he is doing on guitar, Chad actually IS doing on guitar. John might just give up guitar and call Chad next time to do the guitar parts.

All the other stuff on the track? That's Chad also. Fackler heard through the grapevine that Chad said this song was a really good mesh of Husker Du and Rush. He would totally be correct, but John makes it a rule to never admit out loud that he sorta likes Rush sometimes, and would rather say this was a "Owner of a Lonely Heart" era Yes influence played by Husker Du, but he probably won't say that out loud either.
